I tend to be so busy chipping away at the daily grind that the days seem to blend into each other. Always in a rush, running between work, school, appointments etc. The days got longer, the nights shorter and sleepless.
I often felt harried and as if everything was on automatic pilot. Social etiquette seemed like a chore. As I was clamoring to get ready for work making sure that my clothes were on in a sort of semblance of presentable, hair sticking out from every direction tugging my brush through my hair toothbrush hanging from my mouth I received a text from my Beloved that simply said, “Smile. You are beautiful.” My mouth fell open toothpaste sloshed down the front of my blouse, a tear instantaneously fell from my eye, smearing mascara down my face.
I took a moment, sat on the floor cross legged clutching my phone muttering under my breath, hung my head collecting my thoughts, tugging a new shirt on, & ran out the door. Suddenly even though I had only slept for what seemed like ten minutes. I was refreshed and ready to face my day, simply because my Beloved reminded me that I am beautiful. As I hustled down the street to hop on the train, I saw a woman that looked like I had moments before, I greeted her with a smile & said, “Good Morning! Your jacket is lovely.” She lit up as if I had handed her a pot of gold. Tears began to well up in her eyes, and she went on to tell me that her day was horrendous and she doubted anyone would ever even notice her, let alone compliment her. I chuckled & told her about the spattered blouse and lack of sleep. She understood. We parted ways, both with a similar spring in our step.
My challenge for you, Make Jen’s Day pals, is to take a moment, pay a compliment . We all feel the pressure of day to day goings on. We can never tell the day others have had. Take a worry away, pay a compliment today.
