My parents were driving back from Regina when they started having tire problems. They pulled over in Lloydminister at the local Canadian Tire.
My mom was standing in an aisle when she heard a young lady talking on the phone to her mother. She was visibly upset because her boyfriend and her could not afford to fix their unrepairable tire as they were new parents and money was tight. The mother transferred her some money into the account but it still wasn’t enough.
My parents had to buy pretty much the same items that the couple required so as soon as the young lady got off the phone, my mom made her find her boyfriend and tell him to not buy anything except the new tire (that’s all the mother sent enough money for).
My mom proceeded to inform the girl that they needed to buy the same things anyway, so it would be silly if they both paid for the items.
After everything was purchased, my parents helped the young couple get the new tire on and make sure that they were safe to continue on before they worked on their own vehicle.
The young couple stated how appreciative they were with tears in their eyes.
Although it took my parents longer than expected to get back on the road, it didn’t faze them one bit.
My mom finished the story by saying, “What kind of person would leave a young couple in need stranded”?
What I admire most about my parents is that they don’t even realize the huge impact that they have in people’s lives. They are genuinely kind people and for them acts of kindness are just part of who they are.
Could you imagine the impact we could all make if we made genuine kindness to strangers a way of life instead of a chore?
